Every year The Orwell Society and NUJ offer awards to a total of £4,000 for young journalists.

Dystopian Fiction Prize 2024: Competition open for entries – see details here
Every year The Orwell Society holds a competition for students to write a dystopian short story. As well as a cash prize of £750, the winner receives a bust of Orwell to be retained for one year and has their winning story published in the Society journal. Entries are now open. The deadline for entries is midnight on 29th February 2024.

Teacher-in-School Bursaries
The Orwell Society awards annual Teacher-in-School bursaries to support teachers undertaking projects on Orwell, within an Orwell connected locality.
We are seeking to build on our successful awards in Jura, Wigan and South Shields with further awards to teachers in schools. Applications will be open throughout the 2024-2025 academic year, with the bursary being awarded during the following academic year (2025-2026).
