Eileen March 28th and 29th

Sylvia Topp’s much anticipated biography of Orwell’s first wife will be published early in March 2020. On the 28th we will have an event in the The Word, the National Centre for the written word https://theworduk.org/ . This is a stunning new facility, where we will be the guests of South Tyneside Council, who are not only letting us have the room, but are putting a promotional budget behind attracting local people to join us for Sylvia to introduce her book.

Sylvia’s painstaking research over many years has unearthed lots of information on Eileen’s impact on Orwell the man and Orwell the Author. On the 29th in the morning The Mayor will join us for the unveiling of a plaque to Eileen on her former family home. We will then go to Jesmond to the cemetry where her grave is now lovingly tended by local member Brian Thompson.
