Art Exhibition in Carlisle Cathedral

on art inspired by George Orwell’s Scottish island home

Liz and I had the pleasure of getting an advanced look at the work produced by eminent artists Michael and Anne Batey, who spent a summer week on Jura as the guest of Rob Fletcher.
Michael invited me to open the very well attended special guests night viewing in advance of the opening of the exhibition on Tuesday 24th March, which will be able to view until the 2nd April [* Extended. See below!] We heartily recommend going if you are within reach of Carlisle.
Anne’s paintings were mostly exquisite paintings of the wildflowers she found while they were there. She also took pages from a copy of Nineteen Eighty-Four and painted two interiors of Barnhill.
Michael makes stunning use of light and colour, which captures the whole spirit of Barnhill and its surroundings while we visit in June. The picture is of the view we have from the boats as we approach Barnhill with Barnhill at the top of the hill.
