Did George Orwell Say: VIII

Did George Orwell say ‘Millions of other just like me have got a feeling that the world’s gone wrong’?

*

No: this sentence, attributed to Orwell’s 1939 novel Coming Up For Air, abridges Orwell’s original, longer text:

And I’m not even exceptional in this. There are millions of others like me. Ordinary chaps that I meet everywhere, chaps I run across in pubs, bus drivers, and travelling salesmen for hardware firms, have got a feeling that the world’s gone wrong.

(Coming Up For Air, Part III, chapter 1)

Fortunately, the abridgement does not change the sense of the character’s remarks.
